About

Toyin Adeokun is a Lagos-based photojournalist with over seven years of experience covering critical issues related to human rights, gender, social justice, and climate change. His work has been published by several international media outlets, including Al Jazeera , The Guardian and the BBC, and since 2024, he has been a regular stringer for AFP. In the same year, he was named "Photographer of the Year" by The Republic, a prestigious Nigerian magazine for which he has worked on multiple assignments.

He has participated in numerous exhibitions, both locally and internationally, including Where No One Walks Alone at the Institut Français in Abuja (2024), Naija in Light at France Médias Monde HQ in Paris (2023) and in Lagos (2023), Lagos Photo Festival (2022, 2020), Home at Institut Français du Nigeria (2021), and A New Nigeria at Art X Lagos (2020), among others.

Toyin received professional training in photojournalism through a workshop led by award-winning photojournalist Pascal Maître, organized by the Institut Français in Abuja. He also participated in a storytelling workshop organized by Canon and was selected for the prestigious six-month "Naija in Lights" program, organized by CFI and StoryMi Academy, under the mentorship of Andrew Esiebo.

He is a member of the African Photojournalist Database, a joint initiative by World Press Photo and Everyday Africa. He is also actively involved with the Kuta Art Foundation, a pro-youth art center where he volunteers to support the development of the arts within his community.
